Come join us as we make Zentangles - art that uses repeated patterns to make interesting shapes and designs. The repetitive aspect of making patterns allows for mind-wandering, where your Default Mode Network is activated promoting creativity, insight and connection-making. The choosing aspect of the work (where and when to make a new pattern, add color, etc.) activates the Task Positive Network or directed thought. Shifting back and forth between these modes of thinking is a form of meditation that enables deep relaxation and new levels of awareness. Plus, it’s fun.

No previous experience is needed. You don’t have to be “good.” You don’t even need a steady hand. If you can write the letters I, C, O, and S, you already know the basics. For those who are new to Zentangles, we will begin with a demonstration, and guidance will be available as-needed throughout the evening.

You will also have an opportunity to offer comfort/reassurance to any self-critical parts that arise, and, who knows, may even find some healing if you’ve experienced “ the creative wound,” as so many of us have.  We will wrap with optional sharing/processing about our internal experiences of the process.

Facilitator: Julie Levin is an MFT, artist, and certified hypnotherapist. She has been in private practice for over 20 years, and specializes in a reparenting process that softens a harsh inner critic. In recent years, she has been studying the healing power of altered states of consciousness through art, writing, hypnosis, and psychedelic assisted therapy. She is an experienced instructor who loves creating community and connection with warmth and humor.

Presented by Julie Levin, LMFT

Co-hosted by: Cristy Cash, AMFT for East Bay Therapist Community.
